Driver Installation

FocuZ talks to BJJCZ / Beijing JCZ fiber galvo boards through Windows’ built-in WinUSB driver. What you need to do depends on what software your machine ran before.

Coming from LightBurn

Nothing to install. LightBurn already uses the same WinUSB driver FocuZ uses, so your board is ready as-is.

  1. Close LightBurn (only one program can hold the USB connection at a time).
  2. Open FocuZ and connect — the board appears in the connection panel.

Coming from EZCad2

EZCad2 uses its own vendor driver, so a one-time driver swap to WinUSB is needed. Zadig replaces the driver in place — no uninstalling required. FocuZ detects the board and walks you through this; the steps below are the same flow in full.

1. Install WinUSB with Zadig

  1. Close EZCad2. Leave the laser powered on and the USB cable connected.
  2. Download Zadig (free, open source) from zadig.akeo.ie and run it.
  3. Choose Options → List All Devices.
  4. Select the device with USB ID 9588 9899.
  5. Set the driver to WinUSB and click Install Driver (or Replace Driver).

2. Connect in FocuZ

  1. Back in FocuZ, click Refresh on the connection panel.
  2. The board appears in the device list — click Connect.

Board won’t appear, or the old driver keeps coming back?

Clear the old driver, then run Zadig again: open Device Manager (right-click Start), find the laser controller (often under “Universal Serial Bus controllers” as USBLMCV2 / USBLMCV4), right-click → Uninstall device with “Attempt to remove the driver for this device” checked, then Action → Scan for hardware changes (or replug the USB cable) and repeat the Zadig steps.

Switching back to EZCad2 later?

EZCad2 needs its vendor driver, so with WinUSB on the board it won’t see the controller until that driver is restored: in Device Manager, Uninstall device (with “attempt to remove the driver”), then Scan for hardware changes and run EZCad2’s driver installer. This is the same process for LightBurn users switching back to EZCad2. You can swap between the drivers any time — the board itself is untouched.
